Adam Morgan converted his qualifying race pole into victory in the British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park on Saturday, heading home CPRL team-mate Daniel Rowbottom.

Having been fastest in the earlier qualifying session, Morgan made a strong start when the race got underway, whilst team-mate Rowbottom got away from the line better than front-row starter Josh Cook, who slipped to third in his Toyota.

At the end of the second lap, the safety car was briefly called after Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble stopped on the circuit at Schwantz Curve, although the Audi racer got going again and racing resumed on lap four.

However, the safety car was needed again when WSR’s Daryl De Leon slowed on the run to Goddards, his BMW having lost all drive after running wide at the chicane metres earlier whilst battling with Team VERTU’s Tom Ingram.

Racing continued on lap seven, with the two Mercedes at the front quickly breaking free of the pack once again, as NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton dived inside team-mate Dan Cammish at the Old Hairpin to take fourth.

Sutton then turned his attention to Cook’s Corolla for third, but the Speedworks Motorsport driver managed to stay ahead.

At the front, Morgan claimed the second qualifying race win in as many events for the team, which also scored victory in the very-first qualifying race at the circuit earlier in the year.

Rowbottom was 2.4 seconds back in second, with Cook completing the podium.

Sutton took the chequered flag in fourth, extending his points lead, ahead of Cammish in fifth.

Laser Tools Racing’s Gordon Shedden fell to sixth on the opening lap, which is where the Scot finished the race, directly ahead of team-mate Árón Taylor-Smith, who had to fend off a last-minute challenge from Tom Ingram.

In the end, Team VERTU’s Ingram was eighth, battling through the field from 17th on the grid after a disappointing qualifying session.

The top ten was completed by NAPA Racing UK’s Sam Osborne and Power Maxed’s Dexter Patterson, with both drivers benefitting when Team VERTU’s Tom Chilton slowed exiting the Old Hairpin on lap seven whilst running in eighth. Chilton managed to keep going, avoiding the need for another safety car period, but finished down in 21st and last.
